This beautiful TUDOR Oysterdate Chronograph Ref. 79280 dates to 1999 and represents one of the most desirable versions of TUDOR’s fourth-generation automatic chronographs. Introduced in 1995 as part of the 79000 series, the Ref. 79280 is commonly known among collectors as the “Small Block” chronograph and succeeded the iconic “Big Block” generation.
The 40 mm stainless-steel case features the characteristic sporty yet elegant proportions of the period, combined with a highly scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The defining feature of Ref. 79280 is its stainless-steel tachymeter bezel with engraved scale, distinguishing it from the other 79200-series references.
Inside the watch beats an automatic chronograph movement based on the Valjoux 7750, a proven and robust mechanical calibre used throughout TUDOR’s automatic chronograph history. The movement provides the functions of hours, minutes, running seconds, date and chronograph. TUDOR significantly refined and decorated the 7750 for this generation, including its proprietary “Special TUDOR” finishing.
This example is fitted with a stainless-steel bracelet and is accompanied by its box and papers, adding to its appeal for collectors.
